CYCI # 122 Sketch Challenge

This week's challenge over at Can You Case It is a sketch Challenge.  The sketch is shown below:

I chose to use Graphic 45 Mon Amour collection of papers. I love these papers!   This is a very easy card to make and is basically completely made with papers from this collection.  It is an A2 size with a vanilla base card.  I attached a 4.0 x 5.25" mat on the face of the card using one of the patterned papers.  A 2.75 x 4.0" band was added across the front of the mat with contrasting paper.  I then cut vanilla  oval using my Spellbinde'rs Large Oval dies.  The image (also from this paper collection) was cut using my Spellbinder's Small Oval dies.  The label for the sentiment was cut using the smallest die from the Spellbinder's A2 Matting Basics B die set.

After gluing all the paper elements onto the card, I added a black satin ribbon bow with a white flat back pearl in the center.   The label was adorned with 4 tiny flat back black pearls.  The sentiment was from a stamp I had in my stash.  I am sorry I don't know the name or manufacturer, but you could use any sentiment you would like.

Sew Happy for you Round Card

My post is rather late today.  Hubby and I went to several yard sales this morning.  He found some good items, but I didn't have much luck today.  Still it was great fun.

I have been working on this card for a couple days and finally have it finished.  It  is a really different kind of card for me.  I saw a similar card in Simply Cards & Papercraft Issue 148 and just had to give it a try.  I knew I wanted to do a sewing theme and  this is what I came up with:

It was a really fun card to make.  I loved the challenge of making a round card and used my Tonic Circle Layering Die Set for the base card and the mats.  These circles dies are WONDERFUL!  They are one of my favorites because they come in such a wide number of sizes.  I also got to use my new Arianna Blooms dies and Stamps from Heartfelt Creations.  These are also one of my favorites.  Well I will list all the ingredients below in case you are interested in making one yourself.  I would probably mail this in a square envelope box because of the raised flowers.  Also, I found out that because all the flowers and weight are on one side, the card won't stand straight unless placed in an easel.  Without the easel, it just rolls across the table LOL!  But even so, I still think this is a great card!

Authentique Spectrum solid tone on tone patterns 12 x 12 paper pad (green polka dot/striped paper)

Cute Kitty Card

Today's card features another great digi stamp from Digi Box Designs.   This stamp is called
"Big Eyed Cat" and is just as cute as can be.  Now if this card looks familiar, it is because I had previously done a dog version.  I was asked the other day by an Ebay customer if I had a cat one, so I got to work and colored up this little guy using my spectrum noir markers and prismacolor colored pencils.  I decided to do a grey kitty with white feet, muzzle, and eye patch.  I also gave him blue eyes and a blue collar.

I used my Spellbinder's A2 Fancy Postage Die set for the label and a stamp I had in my stash.  The digital stamp was printed and cut out using my Silhouette Cameo.

Can You Case It? CYCI #121 Color Challenge

I recently came across a site called Can You Case it? which is a weekly paper challenge blog.  I have never participated in a challenge before, and decided to give it a go.  This week's challenge is:

Now these are not colors that I have used together much in the past, so I had to put on my thinking cap and pulled out some papers.  This is what I came up with my for submission to the challenge:

This card was really fun to do and I got to use some of my brand new dies and stamps.  I started with a simple lavender base card.  I found the pretty printed floral paper in my stash and thought it went well with the color scheme of this challenge.  I added a white lace border using my new Taylored Expressions Lace Chain border die.  The yellow oval was created using my Spellbinder Large Oval Die set.  I then cut out a lacy lavender label using my new Spellbinder Reflection die and using the same die set, cut the white oval which was then stamped using Memento Lulu Lavender, which really matched the papers very well.  The sentiment is from Just Rite Paper crafts Rose Bouquets. I have had the Heartfelt Creations Ariana Blooms and matching dies on my wish list for so long, and finally purchased them.  They were well worth the wait!  I LOVE them!  I stamped the flowers onto yellow card stock using the lavender ink.  Then with lavender pearlescent chalks, I chalked the edges and insides of each petal.  It looks more pink than lavender, but picks up the pink in the floral papers.  And finally, I punched out a three layered yellow butterfly using my new EK Success Layered Butterfly punch.  I added some lavender pearls and called it done!

Pretty and Easy Thank You Cards

Sometimes you need a quick Thank You card.  Well that is what happened to me.  I like to enclose a thank you card with any orders that customers place on my website, but I had run out and needed to create some quickly.

I started out with a colored base card which measures 5.50 x 4.25.  Then, using a piece of white card stock the same size, I punched this lovely lace border using the Martha Stewart Embroidery punch along each long side of the paper.  With matching colored ink, I stamped the sentiment.  Then using the Just Rite Papercrafts Wild Romantic Rose stamp and die, I stamped the large rose.  It is a layered stamp set, but I was able to achieve the different shades of blue by using only one color of ink.  When stamping over the original color, it layers the ink causing it to be a darker shade wherever it overlaps the previous ink.  Flower was cut with the matching die.

Here is another version where I added a matching color gem to the center of the flower:

I LOVE this layout as it is so quick and easy to create and can be done in so many different colors and color combinations.  Also, just change the sentiment and it can be a card for any occasion. I hope you will give this card a try!

Beautiful Rose Card

When shopping at my local craft store the other day, I came across Issue 148 of "Simply Cards and Papercraft" Magazine.  I was attracted to this issue because it came with a free embossing folder, one large rose stamp, one sentiment stamp, and 2 rosebud stamps.  I LOVE roses so decided to purchase the magazine.  I am really glad I did.  

I couldn't wait to get started creating a card using the free products.  First, I stamped the rose image onto white card stock and colored it using my spectrum noir markers and then enhanced the shading with prismacolor pencils.  I used a black sharpie and deepened the outlines.  Since I had gone with purple, I found some coordinating card stock in my stash and embossed it using the free folder.  I really like this folder, although it does make a rather large card (6" square).  Then using my circle dies, I cut out the center of the embossed piece.  Then I found I had some wonderful purple gingham paper and decided to use that as an accent.  I cut a piece slightly larger than the embossed peice (which I had trimmed slightly) and used that as a mat which framed the purple paper nicely.  Next using the circle dies, I cut out my stamped image to fit inside the embossed paper with a border of the gingham showing also.  I stamped the greeting, minus the rosebuds with violet ink and traced over it with a glitter gel pen.  Thinking that it needed a little something extra, I added two corner dies and small purple oval gems for a little bling.  

Because of the size of the card, I needed to make a custom envelope.  I used my envelope punch board and lined the inside of the envelope with the gingham paper.  

I think the card and envelope together make a great presentation.  I know I will be using this embossing folder again as I already have some images colored that would work perfectly with it.

Fairy Card Using Free Magazine Stamp

I received the April issue of Cardmaking & Papercraft magazine and was happy to find that this edition came with a free embossing folder and 3 fairy stamps and papers.  I am not normally a fairy type person, buy these stamps were quite pretty.  As much as I loved the cards in the magazine, I wanted to create something of my own.  So, I stamped off the image of one of the stamps onto white paper and colored it in with my Prismacolor colored pencils.    I went with a teal and aqua color scheme and used several different dies for cutting out the various layers.  I think it turned out quite pretty.  Here is a close up of the coloring I did.

I added glitter to the flowers and the fairy's wings for some added bling.   To see what I used to create this card, see the list below.

Fur-Ever Friends Clean and Simple Friendship Card

When I saw this image entitled "Fur-Ever Friends" from DigiBox  designs, I fell in love with it.  The animals are just so adorable and the sentiment was just purrr-fect for a friendship card.

I left the card pretty simply by just using a white A2 base card and adding mats of yellow and green.  I colored the image using my Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and Prismacolor colored pencils.  I raised the colored image off the card using a piece of craft foam and attached the cute yellow flower brads in each corner.  Except for the coloring, this card came together rather quickly.  Here is a closeup of the colored portion of the card:

I plan on using this again with a different sentiment and will post that one as soon as I create it.

How to color Digital Stamps Video

Hello everyone!  I know that I have not posted much in the last few days, but that is because I have been very busy working on a new project which I am going to share with you today!  As you may know, I am a design team member over at DigiBox Designs and Kathleen asked me if I would make some videos for her on how I use their fabulous digital stamps.  Well, needless to say I was thrilled at the offer and jumped right in with both feet.  The first video is "How to color digital images".  This video is rather long, but is packed full of information and instructions on how I colored and detailed the Garden Bear image featured on today's easel card.  (By the way, this image is on sale for only $.60!! ) Not only do I show you how to color with alcohol markers, but I then show you how to enhance that coloring even further using colored pencils and jell pens.

This was also my first attempt at creating an easel card!  I think it turned out great.  I can see many more of these cards in my future LOL!
